About Staple Signals

Staple Signals (staplesignals.org) is an open, free and non-commercial project. It gives early warning of rising staple food prices in local markets, with forecasts that are honest about their uncertainty and a published record of how often past forecasts were right. It is meant for small NGOs, local organisations, journalists and researchers who have no data team of their own.

It complements, and does not replace, the official food-security assessments of the World Food Programme and FEWS NET: WFP HungerMap · FEWS NET.

Data. Food prices: World Food Programme (WFP), published on the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX), licensed CC BY-IGO. The data is updated weekly from WFP’s files; prices for a month appear one to two and a half months later.

No personal data. The site uses no cookies, no accounts and no tracking.

Status. This is a beta: the live track record has only just started. The forecasts cover Mali, Burkina Faso and Burundi.
